Quick Overview

Lágrimas de Dolores is a premium mezcal from a rare agave and bottled in such a way that it evokes memories of the culture and elegance of a hacienda from XVII century Mexico.

Their bottle was designed in Feuquières, France. The leather on the cap is meant to be a signature feature from Mexican fine-horse culture. Their logo is a representation of Our Lady of Sorrows (latin: Mater Dolorosa) the patron saint of Hacienda Dolores. Their Joven and Anejo mezcal are produced entirely with Agave durangensis, which is endemic to the State of Durango in Northern Mexico.

Details

Maguey Masparillo is a wild form of Agave maximiliana. It is one of the rarer breeds of agave, and due to its scarcity Masparillo mezcal is difficult to produce. Tahona milling is not traditional in Durango; the agave is crushed by hand, then fermented in open-top pine wood tanks for a week. After fermentation, the mezcal is distilled twice – first in a larger 700L copper and steel still, then a second time in a smaller copper still.

Masparillo is one of Lagrimas De Dolores' most aromatic expressions and with the strongest character, definitely one of the most special mezcals in Mexico. Coming from a wild and scarce maguey, production is very limited, at least from now until our new plantations of this maguey are ready. This is how this world of mezcal is, it requires more than passion, patience and dedication. Health!
